THE WRITE STUFF
Sixteen new writers (standing) launched their careers on Saturday 2 December 2006 with their book Southern Edge.
The writers have all been part of the innovative Writer in Manukau Libraries (WIML) programme.
All the writers were coached by Bronwyn Elsmore (seated centre) who also edited Southern Edge. Graeme Lay (seated left) coached some of the writers for WIML 2005. Jocelyn Watkin (seated right) managed the WIML programme.
In a successful partnership between the NZ Society of Authors Manukau Counties Writers' Group www.authors.org.nz and Manukau Libraries, 100 new writers have now been mentored over two years, via the Writer in Manukau Libraries (WIML) Programme. WIML places an experienced and successful author in a local library to coach new and emerging writers via one-on-one appointments and group workshops.
The completion of the second positive year was celebrated with the launch of Southern Edge at Botany Library, part of the extensive Manukau Libraries network. .
The back cover of Southern Edge invites further reading:
.
Do prohibited shoes mean troubled steps?
Would a pact with the devil ensure a long life as a best selling author?
What happens to a working woman having bad luck on a wet Friday 13th, or a burglar when he surprises an 82-year-old watching her favourite TV soaps?
These, and other stories and poems, are told with freshness and verve in Southern Edge - a collection of new writing from Manukau Counties, the exciting southern edge of the greater Auckland area in New Zealand.
Copies of Southern Edge are available at $NZ18.00 per book (including postage and packaging within NZ). Contact Jocelyn Watkin on email wiml2006@clear.net.nz
